The Pronoun Book: She, He, They, and Me! by Jem Milton and Cassandra Jules Corrigan probably was a fresh take on the idea of pronouns in 2021 when it first was published, however, now that there are several books on the subject and might be lost in the shuffle.
Still, while there is really not a lot new between the covers (as it was probably in the “trailblazers” on the subject) there were a few pronouns mentioned (not in the actual story part, but in the afterwards) I had never heard of before. There is a glossary that can also help define some of the terms used and a few I don’t remember seeing (and I read it three times), but are part of the GLBTQ world. The main feature is that this is an introduction to the subject. It would work well for young children, and/or parents/grandparents/other adults who are trying to learn more, have a child/grandchild/child in their lives, who is transiting.
The images are nice, but not WOW. There are good colors, things are not busy, but not skimping on details either. I felt that the illustrations were straightforward and helpful with understanding the idea and complementing the text. Things are “talked to the reader” and not in a story format, but things flow well enough. It is not “cozy and comfortable” but has a steady beat to things, without rushing you with how things are broken down. Multiple reads allow for new things to be seen, experienced, and reinforced.
