One of my top horrors is space. Another one is under the sea (like deep under the sea). I also don’t like to fly, and caves freak me out. I never thought I was a control freak until I realized that the thing that scares me the most about these things is that I’m not in control. I can’t “get out” of whatever I’m in (space ship, submarine, airplane, etc) when I want to. As far as space, under the ocean, and caves, I have a fear of being trapped. Anyway, this book really did it for me. It has space, being trapped somewhere, unreliable narrators, and just the totally epic nastiness of alien infestation.
Our main character is a psychologist named Ophelia Bray. She’s trying to study and prevent a space-based mental condition called ERS. She decides to travel with a space exploration crew to test out these new sleep helmets that are supposed to combat ERS.
Of course, we slowly learn about some shadiness in Dr. Bray’s past, including a patient that committed suicide on her watch, multiple family secrets, and her fear that she’s losing her mind up there with the rest of them. Everyone else has their own secrets though, so it means a lot of mistrust for the people you’re counting on to keep you alive!
I loved the last book by S. A. Barnes I read a few years ago, so when I saw this one come up, I was pumped. And it’s freaking called Ghost Station. Even the name is creepy. It refers to a space exploration station that was abandoned. Just so creepy. I would definitely recommend this book – four stars.
