Last year I read the first two books in her Regency-Era Second Sons trilogy, which focused on the sexy adventures of Miss Rosalie Harrow and her three men. This book shifted main characters, and we are now caught up in the troubles of Lady Madeline Blair. She has been out in society for three years and has still been unable to ensnare a husband. She has all but given up when she finds out that a dear Aunt left her entire estate to Madeline, with the contingency that she marries before her Twentieth Birthday. Which is in three weeks! Her family doesn’t want her to marry, however, because then the estate would revert to Madeline’s father. So she runs away to the home of her best friend, Roslie Harrow, who is now the Duchess of Alcott Hall. Rosalie and her men scheme to find Madeline an agreeable husband, but she may have already fallen for two different men! Since this is an Emily Rath book, she obviously ends up in a “Why Choose” situation.
The men she falls for are John Warren, the rugged gamekeeper of Alcott Hall, and Charles Bray, a parson who left town suddenly three years ago, but is now back because his beloved Uncle is dying. Charles abruptly left at his Uncle’s urging because he had been engaged in a sexual relationship with John. They have undeniable chemistry, and this book does a good job of showing John struggling with his faith and his sexuality.
Just like all of the other Emily Rath books I have read, I couldn’t put this one down. I read all 500+ pages in 2 days. I highly recommend if you like why choose, regency, or just some dirty dirty smut!
