There are many first day of school or getting ready for school stories/books. However, Get Ready for School is a terribly modern telling of the school and those inside (from the principal to teachers to the janitor). These people have much preparing still for the first day of school, and there is so much to do before the school is ready, they are not sure if they are ready for the students to come and learn. From wi-fi troubles to sensory bins to computers, a modern student will see contemporary items that might be in their classrooms. But they will also see old school items like books, janitors, and blackboards (or probably more likely white boards), and desks in the classrooms.
Janet Nolan made a book that is aimed at the preschooler to kindergarten reader/listener (though it is an elementary school setting and only says from kindergarten to upper levels). The starting to read with help kindergartener to first grader would be fine as well.
Then there is the Richard Scarry, like illustrations of Maria Neradova. They might not be as “old school looking” or as “rough” as those, (as they have much in the way of roundness towards the subjects and a little lest realness to the animals, even though both are cartoon/drawn images). They are colorful and very simple, but fill the page, details. Due in early August 2023 this book will be ready for your own little one who is going to school for the first time, or to a new school.
