If you like offbeat rhyming books, All About Cats Fantastically Funny Rhymes might be for you. The crew of Frantz Wittkamp, Axel Scheffler and David Henry Wilson made this due in mid-March 2024 picture book. I am not sure how the final result will be as I found it as an online reader copy, but it is supposed to be paper and not a traditional first published as hardcover edition.
I am not sure how much I liked all the approximately fifteen poems about cats as sometimes the rhymes were a bit off and some of the things the cats do are being more than mischievous (they like scaring the dog out of its skin, and a bit manically catch butterflies for pets.) But the right reader will get a kick out of things as it is silly to see the cats painting the mice. The author, Frantz Wittkamp is from Germany, and since the publisher description said translated by David Henry Wilson, I am wondering any bumps in the story are due to translation issues I have.
The illustrations are by the illustrator of The Gruffalo, therefore, you can collect them all! (Or all the books of Scheffler). They are cute, but not for everyone. Sometimes there is something not so hidden, but not a main part of the story that is amusing to see (spoiler: one mouse in one cat-filled baby carriage). And the colors and style of Scheffler are all there. The overall feeling of the text and art make it feel lie a Mother Goose fairy tale collection.
