I don’t know how to describe how much I enjoyed this book. I listened to it as a book on tape for a long drive between the mountains and it hit the spot in a way I didn’t know I needed.
It is a very long book that probably could have been smaller, but the author had a story to tell that encompassed the last year and bit of TFG’s reign of horror and after he lost. There were many times in the book when I thought ‘ah, we must be coming to the end soon’ but it would keep going. But that’s really my only issue.
The book is set in Florida around The Winter Whitehouse. TFG is described in the most lovingly mocking way and so deliciously described honestly when something comes up about TFG I can’t help but wonder sometimes if I’m remembering something real or the book (and that is truly the gift that keeps on giving). It is classic Carl Hiaasen in that there are several characters, several crimes to be solved that you have no idea how they intertwine. This particular story involves an animal wrangler, Burmese Python infestation, incompetent criminals, social justice warriors, secret service and staff at The Winter Whitehouse, and crazy situations.
It is funny and adventurous and made the time fly by. If you are having a bad day politically pick this guy up and give it a read. Many of the descriptions and situations will at the very least make you giggle.
