This was recommended to me by a local bookseller, when I asked her “What’s the best book you’ve read this month?” I consider it a solid strategy; I was introduced to Christopher Brookmyre this way back in the mid 90s, and have never had cause to regret it.
The bookseller who recommended this said it got her out of a reading slump, and since I’d not long since read Beach Read, I was keen to give it a go.
Its another winner from Emily Henry – an enemies to lovers story between an editor and an agent. Nora and Charlie are (excuse the swears) fucking adorable. My thumbnail for this reads “I have no notes.”
Nora is the agent for an author who had phenomenal success writing about a small town, which actually exists. Her sister organises a book tourist trip for them. The town both is and isn’t as expected – clearly Daisy, the author, has used some imagination. Instead of bumping into her Happily Ever After Lumberjack, who will cause her to pack in the high powered job in the city and convert to small town bliss, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie. Charlie, who hates her star author, and, by implication, her.
Their journey is twisty and complicated, funny, and made me cry. I actually found myself taking breaks, so I could space it out and not leave the world of Sunshine Falls. And seriously, I would move there just to hang out in that bookstore.
