Bathe the Cat is a love it or not book. And it all depends on what you think of insanity and a very naughty cat. One of the dads of the story wants everyone to clean up as Grandma is coming soon. But even though he has a very put together list of chores posted, the cat (who is on the list as the recipient of a bath) decides to mix things up and mayhem ensues to the point of sweeping the fish, mopping the baby, Daddy rocking the mower, and feeding the rug is not out of the question. The rhymes of Alice B. McGinty and the familiar illustrations of David Roberts, take you on one mad capped adventure where anything goes when Grandma is coming!
And if you are a love of dog crazy, you can have fun with Latke, the Lucky Dog. Told from the point of view of Latke, a shelter dog, we see how he wants to be the best Hanukkah gift ever. But there are a few bumps and chewed candles. Gelt is eaten, latkes scarfed down and a few other not “good boy” moments, but still, he is one lucky dog. And by the end of the eight-day celebration, Latke the dog learns how to be not only lucky but a good dog, too. Ellen Fischer’s story is cute and celebrates the realties of owning a dog while also loving them. And Tiphanie Beeke created illustrations that are realistic, but also cartoon-based. Colorful images support a fun story.
Both stories are aimed at all ages, though Latke, the Lucky Dog (from 2014)is a little longer than Bathe the Cat (from February 2022). But both will become favorites of your child.
