cbr14bingo Cozy Level 2
Mrs. Frollein is a woman who has a few bad days, a few good days, and days where she shows her husband(?) her “full moon” as a (adorable) joke. Because she is adorable (even when she toots), she eats, sleeps, deals with every day and beside her is her partner. Small Hours: A Mrs. Frollein Collection collected several of the webcomics and broke them down into the four seasons of the year. There was also (at the time) several never seen comics. Valerie Minelli uses the inspiration of her own life to pour into these cozy, commercial, and delightful panels.
Everything is cozy about this book. First, our Mrs. Frollein is in a blanket cocoon! Minelli does speak about the “bad stuff” that happens, or the sadness we face, she is still trying to let us know things are going to be fine. Just grab your comfy blanket, your plants and some snacks and your new flat feels like home. Cuddle with a loved one, let him do things for you when he’s in the mood and know that you’ve got this!
They are sweet black and white images with minimal but expressive details. The panels usually are self-contained but two or three might follow one story arc. The day-to-day simple things come to life while our heroine lives through them. And while you will laugh, snort and holler, “Hey! I resemble that remark!” you will also smile and think of about a dozen people who you know need a copy.
Leave a copy by your bedside, by your reading chair, and even if your office for when you need a little pick-me-up.
