Farm Feud is the fourth book in the Pea, Bee, & Jay series, Pea, Bee, & Jay by Brian “Smitty” Smith created a series about a pea, named Pea, a bee who is a Queen Bee, named Bee and, a blue jay named Jay. They are all young kids mentally; Pea lives in his pod with his mother and grandfather. Jay is by themselves, and Bee runs her hive. They live on the Farm with other fruits, vegetables, farm and local critters, and have adventures.
While it is best to read this relatable story of the bumps of friendships in order, you can jump into this one. However, you should at least know the first book, that will help introduce these three friends. The story is easy to follow as Pea and Bee are loudly arguing over who is wrong, Jay is in the middle, and the blueberry just wants to start a rap group (that comes into play later). Of course, the adult reading will know that the Snake (also will come into play and is not in a playful mood) will be foiled, Gramps will get his nap and Bee and Pea will be friends again. But there is just enough tension to let that aged six to eight-year-old be on the edge of their seats.
The art is what you expect. You can judge this book by its cover. It is cartoony, colorful, simple details, and not “fleshed out.” But they are enjoyable and fit the tone of the story well. That tone is modern and accessible to today’s reader.
