Wonder Woman, Volume 1: The Lies by Greg Rucka
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
“The Lies” is the beginning of another cycle to reintroduce Wonder Woman. I’ve just watched WW84 and have been curious to know more about Wonder Woman’s story. Especially because besides Diana Prince, I wasn’t aware of Cheetah, Dr. Barbara Anne Minerva or many of the other characters.
This is a great volume to start with because while we don’t see how Dr. Minerva becomes Cheetah, we do see the conflict and friendship between her and Diana. What’s interesting is that Diana’s origin story is set against the internal conflict she’s facing with her identity. She’s realizing things aren’t as they appear and she’s questioning whether it’s all a lie or if one of the gods is messing with her.
We also get to see a lot of Steve Trevor and Etta Candy who also appear in the films, the latter briefly in WW84. As a big fan of mythology, I’m really enjoying reading more of Wonder Woman and seeing how the modern world is overlaid with Greek mythology. It’s very similar to the Percy Jackson series in that way.
