What a blast from the past. Spoiler alert, Daisy Jones and I am the same age, and living the 1970’s LA life whilst in your twenties was some good times. The music was all around, in an LA-centric way I have not seen since. (Still here.) The clubs were rocking, but I did not have that kind of money, although the boyfriend and I managed to swing tickets once for the Universal Amphitheater and Linda Ronstadt in all her boy scout uniform glory (damn, she was good!). But I worked in the Hollywood area and would make a break on my lunch hour sometimes to hit the Sunset Strip and pick up an album at Tower Records, taking in all the billboards along the way. Good times.
So anyway, this whole interview (which is what the book really is) about the turbulent interaction of Daisy and the band, The Six, really rings true to me, and was just a fun read. And I soooo want to hear that album.
By the way, there was That Album, but about five years later. I nominate Rumours by Fleetwood Mac as the album everybody had, everybody knew, and that was all about the band’s messy personal business.
And can I just mention the braless business that they are continually calling Daisy on? Girl, we all did it. OK, maybe not at work. Where we still had to wear pantyhose, for God’s sake. But otherwise? Let the ladies freeeee!
