No More Naps!: A Story for When You're Wide-Awake and Definitely Not Tired by Chris Grabenstein

February 11, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Annalise Devin McFleece is Definitely Not Tired! Nope. Not her. She is a typical kid who cries, fights and will not, no matter what, go take her nap. A fate more than one parent has encountered I am sure. And Miss Annalise’s partents are suffering through that in No More Naps!: A Story for When You’re Wide-Awake and Definitely Not Tired.

The McFleece family is your typical modern family: Mom, Dad and one cranky toddler named Annalise Devin. Her cries and screams can crumble the baker’s cake. You can hear her shrill shrieks over the construction workers jackhammer! And to try and make this one naughty toddler go off to Dreamland, Dad takes Annalise out on a walk. Here is where she learns a few things about sleeping and nap taking. There are some amusing puns and images along the way. There are cute, fun details that are expressed in bold colors, detailed simply but highlighting what is important to the story illustrations. Chris Grabenstein has known an Annalise or two in his time and writes her realistically. And Leo Espinosa knows how to make them all come awake (or asleep if needed).

You can find the author and illustrator making cameos in the artwork. And an afterwards by the author gives you a little background to who the real Annalise (and Devin) was and a quick look into his mind as well.  And while this book will probably not become a classic, it will be one that your toddler will fondly remember. A perfect baby shower gift for your adult child when they have their first bundle of joy.
