I am not usually a fan of the Snowmen books. I mean, I like them, but can take them or leave them. This time, the Snowmen at Halloween had the Halloween theme a tad forced to make it possible for the snowmen come to life at Halloween. Now, living in New England, I know you can get snow in October (we “old timers” still talk about the storm of 1987), and I have had more than one costume “disappear” under winter jackets, but I would think most kids might not relate to having a Halloween snow fall. Otherwise, if you like the Snowman series, you will love this as it is right up there with the feel of the others.
We have a fun Halloween night with tricks, treats, costumes and some really gooey apples. I do wonder how snowmen bob for apples, but we have that too. Kids will enjoy the snowmen and their adventures, and the adults will get a kick out of some of the more fun costumes (can you spot a Monster Inc-like monster? Or a Bob Ross want-to-be?) Magic, mayhem and mischief fill the pages.
Caralyn M. Buehner and Mark E. Buehner gave it their all. Their signature style is here. Their bright colors and goofy, fun loving snowmen are here. Their details are amazingly fun (can you find a few hidden items on each page? If you cannot, make sure you kept your jacket as the answers are hidden there). It is just a wonderfully cozy new book to have in your snowman or Halloween collection.
