Adam Gamble, and Mark Jasper have created two more board books in the “Good Night” series. This time they deal with a popular subject for many children: space.
With the help of Andy Elkerton on illustrations, Good Night Solar System gives planets a turn at helping a space-crazy child to sleep. The same repetitive text slowly builds up to one big goodnight for the solar system, lulling the child (hopefully to sleep). If not, you can try again with Good Night Astronauts and with illustrations by another illustrator, Cooper Kelly.
The art of each title is what gives it their own unique flavor. In Good Night Solar System, Saturn’s image is very lovely. It is swirly and just filled with perfect colors. It would be almost frameable. And YES! Even Pluto is mentioned (even if they say he is only a dwarf planet: LONG LIVE PLUTO!) And the Milky way in Good Night Astronauts also has a rich look and coloring to it.
These books are a little “sing-song” to begin with, but in Good Night Astronauts this feature has gone slightly to the too much side in that department. Therefore, parents you have been warned. This one might get to you after a while. However, for the kid who likes space and astronauts they will enjoy learning about how Astronauts eat, brush teeth and go to bed (“space jammies” was a little over the top for me, though).
These are fun books. There are several themes that will fit your child’s likes. They are small board books perfect for little hands to hold and to be enjoyed.
