I got a little thrill this year when I told Sherry Thomas on Twitter I was so excited for this book, and she liked my status. The Hollow of Fear is the third book in the Sherry Thomas series. For those who are fans of the slow burn romance between Lord Ingram and Charlotte Holmes, there are heartbreaking and breathtaking moments between those two. If that’s all we got, I would have been satisfied.
There’s also a mystery involving Lady Ingram, who suddenly turns up dead. Charlotte has to go under disguise to find out who killed her. I really liked that there’s only one mystery in this story. And I didn’t figure it out at all! And now I need to go and listen to the first two again to see if there were clues that I missed. I am sure that there were.
So, I’m going to need you folks who have read the first two to hurry up and read this book so we can talk about it. There are two giant bombs dropped in here (and one literal one which was interesting) AND I NEED TO TALK ABOUT THEM. (Wait…did she just yada yada yada a major character who Charlotte finally meets???? Argh!) There are also a couple of major plot points from the second book that are dropped for the sake of this story line that will be back, starting with the character uncovered at the end of the second book.
The thing I love the most about these books is that Sherry Thomas never ignores her secondary characters. There is less Mrs. Watson and her niece in this book but more Livia and Inspector Treadles. Charlotte and Inspector Treadles reach an understanding that I really loved, and that helps him in his relationship with his wife in a really satisfying way. Anyway, please read this book and we will talk about it. I’m going to have a hard time picking the best thing I read this year, which is wonderful.
