My Horizontal Life: A Collection of One Night Stands is my AlabamaPink cbr10bingo book. I figured it would be the most fun after reading the other titles descriptions. I also would never pick this book up on my own as I am not a fan of Ms. Handler.
Chelsea Handler focuses on a few of her favorite, or at least interesting (to her), sexual encounters. If you are looking for porn, thankfully, this is not it. Considering her reputation, this is tame. Sure, she swears and talks about the “size” of a black man’s member. She talks about how her father was convinced one of her black lovers stole a car (dad alone is another story). She talks about the time she saw her parents having sex and the not so normal reaction of her father afterwards (then again, Chelsea did have a camera and was hiding in the basement for the rest of the day and night…). She mentions various places her panties have been found and certain skid marks left behind on them. Sure, she talks about her ample drug and alcohol use, but over all this is not a “nasty” as I thought it would be.
Still, the book was dull. Who has not heard of celebrity excess? Who among us has not had a bad sexual experience or two? Who has not had their gay friend embarrass them at their Mormon sister’s Jewish/Atheist wedding? (Okay, maybe not that last one).
The big thing I come away with is, Handlers friends are not very nice. What she sees in them, I am not sure. Then again, since she is just like them, what do they see in her? The fact she lies to everyone she meets does make me wonder about how truthful some of her stories are. But whatever else I think of her, she is not a stupid person. She is someone who seems to know what she wants and goes for it. And while I did not love My Horizonal Life, I know she can spin a tale.
