Had a bit of a dip in productivity there! I wasted way too long trying to read a book that was just too boring (gave up, no review) and then …
I GOT ENGAGED!
Yeah buddy your lowercase reviewer is getting HITCHED. So yes, I am shouting it from every rooftop I can find. He’s the best. We so happy. I’ve only heard my mother say “Took you long enough” once. Everything is wonderful.
Me, IRL:
But anyway. Y’all didn’t come here for my personal life, you came for a review. And maybe it’s my residual happiness rubbing off on absolutely everything I encounter, but I ADORED this book in all it’s absurdity. Hope Never Dies: An Obama/Biden Mystery is everything you need it to be. Trust me.
We open on first-person narration by former Vice President of the United States Joe Biden. He’s, well, bored. His job is over, he’s back at home, he’s feeling his age, and his best buddy Barack has been too busy parasailing with multimillionaires to even so much as text him. He’s lonely and he’s bored and then out of the blue tragedy comes to an old friend and he finds himself side by side with his old boss, working through a dark mystery.
Is it absurd? Yes. Did it feel really really good? Also yes. These things are not mutually exclusive and the novelized personalities of these two men we miss so much are 100% part of my head cannon now.
Also, #humblebrag, I once met Joe Biden (I Knope-d so hard) and, yeah, from that brief interaction, I completely believe everything in this book.
Brb, more celebrating to do.
