Some days you read a book and say, “OMG THIS IS THE BEST BOOK EVER!” And some days you read a book and say, “What was that all about?” A Couch for Llama is the second one. The whole story is simple: The family couch is loved only as a family can love a couch (it is all used and beat up). Family buys new one. An accident causes the llama to get the new couch. In llama fashion it treats it as only a llama can. Family gets couch back. Gives the old one to the llama. But what is the purpose of the story? Does it teach a moral? Not every book has to have a moral, but I do like it to have a logical point. Perhaps the point is to just have a fun story?
We cannot like every book we read. That is why there are so many different books out there. I can appreciate the work and time that goes into a book, yet, not actually like said book. This was a case of I really did want to like this book. I like llamas. I have a couch that is loved. What is not to like? Sadly, this book for me.
I will say I like the colors of the illustrations. They are bright, fun and lighthearted. They have some fun hidden gems (follow the car down the road, see mice and geese doing goofy things). It could be a good bedtime read.
