This mouse will not stay in the house….even though it is winter and very cold outside! Field mice do not like the cold…but Lucy loves the snow crunching under her paws and how the cold makes her whiskers feel. Her friends want to stay warm inside, but Lucy wants them to come out and play so she can show off her new skills and all the winter fun she has been having. Some of her attempts do not pan out…but soon she figures out how everyone can have fun in winter!
Great illustrations, a few cheese funny-punny puns, and a nice and cozy, read by the fire story flows off the page in this any time read. It might be cold outside, but snuggled down we can all enjoy a winters tail…I mean tale.
The illustrations alone are worth the read. You want to devour each page very slowly. You will want to reread about Lucy and her friends over and over. Picture books are a great way to help get kids interested in reading. The illustrations are a story within themselves. And Mice Skating does that very well. Also, the text, if read out loud, creates a lyrical touch that allows you to hear and feel the experiences of Lucy.
This book is the perfect gift to give to the person (adult or child) that loves picture books, whimsical stories, mice, winter, or even the warm summer.
