Oh Tom Hanks, I love you so much. You and your wife are adorable. You are an excellent actor. And you seem, by all accounts, to be a fairly cool dude. But you are not a writer. I’m sorry, buddy.
I did kind of like the first story, in which a man starts dating this whirlwind of a woman who makes him like, get up off the couch and clean things. I think we’re supposed to side with the beleaguered boyfriend, but mostly I wanted to hang out with Anna (“In the time I spend lollygagging over my whites and colors, Anna will drywall her attic, prepare her taxes, make her own fresh pasta, and start up a clothing exchange on the Internet.”).
But…these stories are really not very good. Even listening to Mr. Hanks himself reading them didn’t liven them up much. They just seemed a little pointless and several repeated the same themes in a way that was repetitive rather than cohesive. I probably wouldn’t have even bothered finishing it had anyone else written it. Sorry Tom 🙁
