I was gifted this book and told it was a great piece of YA literature featuring a well written female character. Going off that, I had no idea this was actually a bit of a thriller so I was a bit taken aback when I got into the main part of the plot. I don’t read a ton of thrillers and this might be my first YA thriller, so it was actually pretty fun to experience, just not what I was expecting.
The person who gave this to me wasn’t wrong, 18 year old Arcadia is a great character dealing with some heavy things. Her mom died fairly recently, so it’s just her and her dad taking care of her 4 year old brother. Her dad isn’t coping very well which leaves Arcadia taking care of the home and family in a way most people her age don’t have to worry about. When she gets a chance to break free and run away for some fun with two guys she meets, she takes it as a way to make her life her own again. Unfortunately one of these guys isn’t what they seem, so scary tense moments ensue.
This book was definitely a trip. I had a lot of fun reading it and couldn’t put it down at the end because I just had to know what happened. It’s too bad I waited so long to post this review because it was perfect summer reading: something you can get through easily, a propelling plot, fairly well written. Still, if any of y’all are young adult fans or are in the mood for something slightly thriller-y, this one would probably be up your alley.
