I’m not generally a fan of celebrity books, but as an avid fan of “Gilmore Girls,” I knew I would eventually read Lauren Graham’s memoir. I read her first book, Someday Someday Maybe, and really enjoyed it, so I had pretty high hopes for this. Overall I liked the book, especially the early parts of the book. The chapters about her childhood were really interesting, and I liked hearing about her first forays into the entertainment industry. Plus the Gilmore Girls stories were fun.
Once she started talking about her relationship with Peter Krause, the book kind of lost me. I don’t have a lot of patience for people talking about how they never thought they would find someone to share their life with, and lo and behold they finally did! Don’t worry, it’ll happen eventually! Those narratives always rub me the wrong way. It didn’t give much insight into their actual relationship, which I would rather read about. There was also a chapter that seemed very “get off my lawn.” I don’t need to read about how you think e-readers are worse than books, thanks.
Overall I liked it, and for a celebrity memoir it exceeded my expectations. I think if you are a fan of Gilmore Girls or Parenthood, or want a good celebrity book, it’s a solid choice. I listened to this on audiobook, which added a level of enjoyment and made my commute fun. More than anything, it made me miss watching her on my television. Come back to TV, Lauren!
