Book Announcement: #CannonBookClub Reads a Play

The Real Inspector Hound by Tom Stoppard

November 8, 2017 by faintingviolet 3 Comments

To quote a literary legend “The play’s the thing!” and we’ll be reading and discussing Tom Stoppard’s The Real Inspector Hound on Wednesday December 13, 2017.

I have posted Discussion Topics post as a reminder to finish up and food for thought. As in Book Clubs past, feel free to visit us here on the group blog for the dedicated post or in our Facebook Cannonball Read Book Chat group where I’ll have even more topics to discuss.

Here’s a synopsis of our choice:

The ultimate parody of the stage and literary convention of the country-house mystery. The Real Inspector Hound is a short, one-act play by Tom Stoppard. The plot follows two theatre critics named Moon and Birdboot who are watching a ludicrous setup of a murder mystery, in the style of a whodunit. By chance, they become involved in the action causing a series of events that parallel the play they are watching.

Find out what books we discussed in the past and watch for info on upcoming titles on our Book Club page, and don’t forget to share your opinions about next year’s Cannonball Read 10 (!) Book Clubs on our latest survey.

*A note about the Amazon link: it leads to one of the many editions of this play. As there are several versions available, including one for Kindle, you’ll just need to click around a bit to find your preferred edition. Once you follow the link below, anything you purchase will help us raise money for the American Cancer Society.

Quick question….the play or the collection? The play is relatively short, so I am curious.

Officially we’re going with just the play. I’ll probably read more myself and might post some additional talking points about Stoppard generally.
