I just need to get this out of the way first. I know the author of this book (her real name is not Maggie Preston). She works with me, and I really like her. We were out at happy hour one night, and she was like “oh yeah, I wrote a book.” So, being the Amazonwhore that I am, I immediately bought it. Like from my phone at the table. It’s only $4 for the Kindle edition (it looks like it’s only on Kindle). I’m so glad I did. I usually have like three or four books going at a time (1-2 Kindle books [one on my actual Kindle and one on the Kindle app on my phone], 1 hardcover / paperback / real book, and 1 audiobook), so I didn’t immediately start reading this book. Once I remembered I had it and started reading though, I plowed through it.
It has some sex scenes, which is totally good with me. They’re good sex scenes too. There’s no “throbbing member” or anything off-putting. They’re actually sexy sex scenes. The characters act like real people with real motivations and back stories. I guess I’ve read a lot of crappy books in my life, because saying that the characters are believable sounds like a low bar. It’s so awful though when you’re reading a book and you’re thinking “Why the hell did they do that? No sane person would do that”, or something along those lines. Anyway, I digress.
The main character has just recently ran over her soon to be ex-husbands (already) dead body. That’s how we meet her. It’s such a cool way to start a book. It only gets better from there. There’s romance, family struggle, zoning issues (!), adultery, long buried secrets, and much more. I cannot stress enough how much I loved this book. I think I read it in like four nights. It would’ve been quicker if I didn’t need to go to sleep before work! I texted her (the author) the other day and said “Please tell me you’re writing more of these!” Good news guys, she’s working on them!
