Ok so Phantoms of the North is book 6 in the Alice in Deadland series. I put these two books together, because they’re short, and their stories are quite similar. In Phantoms, everyone is safe and happy in Wonderland. The Homeland (the USA) is sending over people and equipment to start large scale farming operations. Things are going well. And then Alice and one of her buddies finds a man while they’re out on patrol. He’s beaten up and scared, and he tells them that bandits are kidnapping people nearby. They bring the man back and fix him up, and then go out to try and find the bandits. Of course, the bandits work for the “Phantoms” in the kidnapping scheme. We find out that the Phantoms are radiation poisoned cannibals who are somehow very large and strong. Oh, and also they’re crazy bad dudes (the cannibalism, duh). There’s an epic battle, Alice and her people save Wonderland, and all is well. Alice feels like there’s more to life, and more people to save, so her and Bunny Ears wander off to see what’s up.
While Alice and Bunny Ears are off wandering, they come across a boy, and some bandits trying to kill him. They kill the bandits, and try to get the boy home. Apparently there are more, and they’re all working on the orders of the Crocodiles. Like not real crocodiles, people called crocodiles? They’re all addicted to some sort of gross sounding drug that makes them all scaly. The big bad lives on a Russian submarine, and wants to take over Wonderland. He also has nukes. He’s threatened the Homeland, and also Wonderland. During all this, Bunny Ears remembers he used to know someone named Neha, and that his name might be Neil…
