Okee dokee. I feel like this keeps happening to me. I thought this was the last book in the series, so I just kept reading from book one to book seven. I got to the end and was like “um, what?”. There are apparently at LEAST two books left. That is not really a problem, but I wouldn’t have just kept mowing through the series if I knew it wasn’t finished!
Anyway, this book is called Family. Logically, I thought we’d learn more about Alice’s family. Not so much. We learned more about the Pillar. We learned more about where the Cheshire is. We learned a bit more about Jack. We learned a little bit about the March. Constance came back. So I guess a lot happened, but I still have no idea what’s up with Alice’s family.
Mr. Jace does this thing in all of his Insanity books that I really hate. Alice will be talking to someone who knows about her past, and it’s something we (the reader) really want to find out, but she’ll say “I’m not ready to learn that”, or “I can’t hear that right now”, or something along those lines. I feel like it’s a cheap suspense builder. I WANT THE ANSWERS!
The cover of the book actually shows some plot points. At one point, the asylum is set on fire, and we assume it burns to the ground. I was going to complain again about the title being Family and us not learning about Alice’s family. But… I guess we do learn that Constance and the March, and maybe Jack, and maybe the Pillar are considered her family, even though they’re not blood. Alright, I get it Cameron!
