Summer lives in Long Thorpe, a boring town where nothing happens. One evening, she goes to meet her friends at a nearby club; however, when she arrives, she learns from her friends Kerri, that another friend, Rachel, had gotten into a fight with her boyfriend and was unreachable- she had turned off her cell phone. The girls head off in separate directions in search of Rachel, a choice that Summer will later regret.
In her search, she begins to walk through a nearby park where she hears a man call “Lily?” This man eventually kidnaps Summer and takes her to a remote place and leads her to a cellar, where Summer meets three other women, Rose, Poppy, and Violet. Summer is informed by the women that she should never allow the man hear her say that her name is Summer, that it is now Lily.
Summer finds out from the other girls that they too have been taken by this man that they call Clover. He has also changed all their names as well to names of flowers. Rose had been there the longest, over three years. Summer is determined to get out and find her family, but when one escape attempt ends up going badly, she wonders how will she ever get out. How has this man taken these women with no one noticing? Why is he doing it? Will she ever get out?
