The Adventures of Tom Stranger, Interdimensional Insurance Agent by Larry Correia

January 10, 2017 by SandyLemons 1 Comment

“The Secretary of Defense stood at the front of the room giving the most important PowerPoint presentation in human history. […] The fate of all mankind rested on the decisions that would be made in this room in the next few minutes, so of course PowerPoint wasn’t working. […] ‘It doesn’t really matter which dimension you’re in Mr. President, Windows still does that. There’s even one Earth where Bill Gates’s cyborg head is God Emperor and they’re still forced to use Vista.’ ”

In a world where there is a new dimension for every decision that has ever been made, things can get pretty crazy. Luckily, there is Tom Stranger to step in and set things right. He is an interdimensional insurance agent and prides himself on his customer satisfaction. However, where there is good there must also be evil. Enter Jeff Conundrum, a competing insurance agent in this multi-dimensional reality. In this 2 hour (and change) audiobook, narrated by Adam Baldwin (coincidentally a president in one dimension where Fox understood the importance of Firefly and did not cancel it after one season) we follow some of the adventures of Tom Stranger through some very curious alternate realities. What would it be like if Chuck Norris were president? Or what if dolphins ruled the Earth? Yeah, it is one wild ride.

I had high hopes that this would be a super silly, fun little ride. I will say that it was at least moderately funny and highly silly. However, I think it was still too long-winded even though it was only 2 hours long. I think it would have been just as effective in only 1 hour. That being said, I will recommend this to fans of silly, pandering, sci-fi short stories. Adam Baldwin is not one of my favorite actors, but I think he was more than adequate for the choice of narrator here.

That blurb is my nightmare. I still have nightmares about Vista.
