I started the Other Typist at the end of December but couldn’t get into it, I ended up reading Best of Enemies and Most Talkative during breaks from the Other Typist which may explain why I have no clue what I just read. I’m not great at reading multiple books at one time…
Rose is a young typist with the NYPD during Prohibition; she was raised an orphan who received a scholarship to school where she learned to type as an opportunity to support herself. She follows all the rules until becoming infatuated with the newest typist at the precinct. Odalie, the new typist, is a mysterious young woman that Rose mildly stalks before they become friends and then roommates. Odalie, who lives in a beautiful hotel paid for by an unseen benefactor, takes Rose under her wing and into the dark underworld of speakeasies. Despite some of Rose’s reservations she dutifully follows Odalie around like a puppy; this leads to a lot of trouble for Rose, who is recounting her time with Odalie from a mental institution.
My multiple books at one time compounded by too slow of a plot- that then sped up too quickly- made it difficult to maintain my interest in Rose and Odalie’s shenanigans.
