The Selection is one of those series I’m going to have to read to completion. The fifth (and I believe final) book is out in the spring, so in anticipation, and because I needed something light and fluffy to read, I finally picked up The Heir, the fourth book in this royal saga. About 20 years have passed since Maxon’s Selection was completed, and people ain’t happy. The caste system is gone, but there are still riots and people calling for the head So, in order to try and get the plebeians to forget how much their life sucks, Maxon is bringing back the Selection! But, for the first time, it will be the future queen selecting her royal companion. That’s right, the eldest child is a girl, Princess Eadlyn. (Spoilers for the first three books in the series.)
The Paper Magician was kind of weird for me. A friend was reading it and, since it was free on Kindle Unlimited, I decided to check it out as well! I like having a stash of “easy to read, but still entertaining” books to get me through long days at work. So, the basic premise. Ceony Twill (oh with the names again!) is a recent graduate of magic school and, despite being the best in her class, which means she should have her pick of magic types, she is apprenticed to a paper magician. Paper magicians are a dying breed, even in early 1900’s England. She’s basically conned into taking this, as once a magician is bonded to their substance, it can not be changed. So, off she goes!
