My bf had read this book and loaned it to me when we initially started dating. A year and nearly seven months later and I have finally gotten to it.
I kept putting this book down which for me isn’t usually the best sign but in the end I kept with it. Hiaasen had me smirking as wacky hijinks occurred and at the center was murder and a frozen arm, flanked by a cop trying to get back on the force and more cliches and easy coincidences and connections between characters than I have seen.
I would quantify this book as a delightful, and sometimes (though not always) predictable romp. Not a bad book, but I don’t think I’ll be running back to Hiaasen soon as I think stories such as this are better in small doses. In addition, I don’t as a rule dislike a non-linear story, but the transitions between narratives were jarring and pulled me out of the over-arching tale. Still, I enjoyed it as a little bit of brain candy and recommend it to anyone looking to chuckle at the absurdities in government and/or Florida.
