When I first picked up this book, I assumed it was going to be as the title suggested: about the secret of a husband (or husbands) and how it impacts that lives of those close to them. And, in a way, it was. But as I got deeper into this book and realized what these secrets were, and the way it tied the lives of three different women together, it became clear that it was about so much more than that. It’s about the pressure we face trying to keep something a secret from the person we love most of all, and the ramifications it can have that are so much more far-reaching that we can imagine. It’s also about the pressure we place on someone when we finally unburden ourselves and make them, whether they want it or not, the keeper of our secret.
