*Note: This review was completed in 2017 before the author’s views towards our trans siblings began to be widely known.  My reading experience was what it was and these reviews will remain up, but it should be noted that I find her TERF values abhorrent, which have only become more clear over time, and her doubling down in Summer 2020 has made the decision to walk away from her as a creative force the only acceptable choice for me. I will no longer be supporting […]

But this too is true: stories can save us.  I’m forty-three years old, and a writer now, and even still, right here, I keep dreaming Linda alive. Rating: 5/5 Summary: Yelena is about to executed for murder. In Ixia when you commit a crime, your punishment is essentially the crime itself, kind of like an eye for an eye. There are no excuses. As the food taster, Yelena could be poisoned at any meal and die anyway. Yelena is […]

Celaena is the notorious Adarlan’s Assassin and this title has been feared for many years. The reason she’s freed is so that she can compete in a competition to be the King’s Champion and she’s the Prince’s pick. If she wins the competition, she’ll serve the King for six years before being free at last. The only thing Celaena […]

I finally finished my reread of Persuasion as part of the Go Fug Yourself Bookclub on Goodreads. It wasn’t my first choice, but it was nice to visit a known favorite and bring some new understandings to why this book works for me. As expected, I loved it. It’s probably unfair really since Persuasion has such a particular place in my literary heart. It’s the first Austen that I read of my own choosing and reminds me of a specific place and time. We read […]
