Stay with me – what if the library was evil?

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

September 17, 2019 by lowercasesee 1 Comment

This is my reread of the series (I think the last one just came out?) and while it doesn’t hold up quite as well as I remembered, I’d set the bar on my recollection pretty darn high. The Great Library is a pretty awesome series and one I hope more people read so we can talk about it. In a setting of alternate-history-but-with-magic, the library of Alexandria now controls all knowledge. Essentially all books and information are delivered by magical eReaders and physical books (theoretically) exist […]

Redemption for the Great Library

Smoke and Iron by Rachel Caine

August 10, 2019 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 12 (Youths!) I have to admit I’d really gotten close to giving up on The Great Library Series. The last volume was pretty bad; it had little action, and a lot of the characters started to look bad or empty. Thankfully, many of those issues were resolved in Smoke and Iron (Great Library #4). Smoke and Iron begins where Ash and Quill left off. Jess and his twin Brandon have switched places, and “Brendan” goes to the Great Library to hand over Morgan (beloved […]

Wolfhunter River by Rachel Caine

Gina Royal didn’t know she was married to a monster. Her whole life changed  as she pulls up to her home where there’s been an accident. A drunk driver crashes   into her husband’s garage turned “workspace” revealing that what Melvin Royal was actually working on in that garage was becoming a prolific serial killer.  At first, the police don’t believe that Gina had no knowledge of what her husband had been doing so for two years, she lost her children and was embroiled in a […]

If Princess Leia got corrupted and Vader was absent, would you still like Luke?

August 6, 2017 by CoffeeShopReader 3 Comments

Ink and Bone (first novel) was really interesting with a great concept and an interesting group of characters. Book 2, Paper and Fire, was also pretty good, since it added backstory and complexity to several characters and to the narrative scenario overall. I don’t like the third installment of the series, Ash and Quill. The first half is filler, scheming around but nothing really being said or done. In fact, some of the key characters become irritating or questionable to the point of unlikable. The […]
