Superboy Happily Proves Himself

May 17, 2018 by Halbs Leave a Comment

I recently reviewed Supersons vol. 1 and sung its praises from the metaphorical Metropolis rooftop. I’ve climbed the gargoyles of Gotham to again sing the praises of this fun series. For those of you too young to join the Teen Titans and not in the know, the Supersons series revolves around young Jon Kent and Damien Wayne and their odd couple friendship. Damien, aka Robin, is Batman’s son. He’s grumpy and arrogant and the leader (I guess?) of the Teen Titans. Jon Kent is ten […]

Good, Clean Comic Fun!

May 7, 2018 by Halbs Leave a Comment

The cover of this glorious trade paperback tells you everything you need to know about this collection. It’s energetic, bright, youthful, and has a smattering of the old guard in the background. It’s like a melodic punk song. I enjoyed this collection because it was fun and sweet and there wasn’t an ounce of grimdark to be found. Perfect bedtime reading.  The story begins with Superboy, the son of Clark Kent and Lois Lane. He’s at school, stepping up for a bullied kid. (Of course […]

Superman and Superboy fly over a field, the Kent homestead in the distance.

Superman Vol. 5: Hopes and Fears

April 17, 2018 by J Leave a Comment

Because I don’t keep up with this title, I was a little concerned that I might be at a bit of a loss starting this without having read Vol 4, but I needn’t have worried. Hopes and Fears collects three separate story arcs of the Superman title, and little prior knowledge is required: The Kents go on a road trip over the Fourth of July weekend, taking a break from their daily routine and paying call at various patriotic landmarks. Superman goes toe-to-toe with Parallax, […]

Super Sons Vol. 1 When I Grow Up by Peter Tomasi

One for the pull list

October 17, 2017 by J 3 Comments

Oh, wow, this was a lot of fun! Because I don’t read a lot of Bat family books, I know the barest of facts about Damien Wayne. I know he’s Talia’s son by Bruce, that’s he’s the current Robin, he’s smart, and he’s a bit of a brat. I know even less about Jonathan Kent, son of Superman. (But a different Superman? Like an alternate universe Superman? I don’t know.) The two of them together? Magic. They bicker and press each other’s buttons like siblings. […]
