Witches, demons and cops

Black Magick Vol 3: Ascension 1 by Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott

June 15, 2022 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

I reviewed the first two volumes of Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott’s Black Magick series for Cannonball 10. Given the gap in time, I did a quick reread so that I could remember what was going on for this third volume. This series is pretty cool, dealing with police work and witchcraft/demons. The main character Rowan Black is a witch and police detective who finds her worlds colliding when a series of murders seems to indicate the presence of dark forces that are coming for Rowan […]

The magick continues

June 26, 2018 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

The detective/noir/occult tale continues! Volume 1 introduced the reader to Rowan Black, Portsmouth Police detective who is also a witch. The first installment ends with a shadowy group of technologically savvy investigators tracking down Rowan. We cannot yet guess who […]

A Witch with a Badge

May 20, 2018 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

Black Magick is a really well written and beautifully drawn series by Greg Rucka and Nicola Scott featuring a police detective named Rowan Black who, unbeknownst to her colleagues, is also a witch. In Volume I of what I can only hope will be a long running series, Rucka and Scott introduce the reader to Rowan, some of her fellow Portsmouth police officers, and another witch named Alex, who is also Rowan’s friend/lover. The story opens with a Wiccan ritual in the woods interrupted by […]
