So I’m to book 5 now of the Survivor’s Club series by Mary Balogh, and there’s only one more so far published. I’m not ready to let these folks go, especially as we’ve had two big wins in a row. This is the story of Ralph, Earl of Berwick and only heir to the Duke of Worthingham, and Chloe, a woman who’s run from the ton twice due to indiscreet behavior of others. They meet at the Duke of Worthingham where Chloe is a “guest” […]
A sweet romance of communication
Oh, this book. I haven’t read a book that made me feel this happy in a long time. I just want to hug my imaginary characters. It’s pretty much the perfect antithesis of Bollywood Bride. The entire story is about the characters communicating. And a sensible heroine to boot?! So completely here for it. This is book four in the Survivor’s Club series about survivors of the Napoleonic Wars. This time we have Flavian (yes, his name is ridiculous and he knows it) a hoity […]
A boring romance road trip (who knew they existed!?)
I’ve never had a romance novel take this long to read before. I started this one 3 weeks ago, and up until last night I was half done. When my library reminded me the other day that they’d be taking it back I knew I had to finish it. If only to write this review. Wow, was this one boring. This time our hero from the Napoleonic Wars is Benedict, a man crippled after falling off and then crushed by his horse. The doctors said […]
Cold Hearted Duke
This is the first book in the Mistress Trilogy, but the events occur after the prequel of ‘The Secret Mistress’ which I reviewed previously. I think the rake in this book is more along the lines of what Lisa Kleypas was aiming for in ‘Cold Hearted Rake’. Jocelyn Dudley, the Duke of Tresham comes across very strongly in the opening chapter of this book. He’s every inch the arrogant, entitled, rakish scoundrel from the top of his head to the tips of his polished Hessians, […]
This isn’t the usual ‘reform a rake’ story
The last couple books I’ve read involved a wicked rake as the hero of the story, so this book is a departure from that. I’ve not read a lot of Mary Balogh, but I picked this one up on a whim at the library when I couldn’t find much in the new releases section. It’s a prequel to a couple of other books, which I haven’t read, but I don’t think that really made a difference. The heroine is Angeline Dudley, a young lady on […]
Another romance with a blind man
This is the second book in a series of historical romance about survivors of the Napoleonic Wars, The Survivors Club. This time we have our youngest member, Vincent, who unlike Hugo in The Proposal has a more noticeable issue from the wars: he’s blind. While on the run and hiding from his overbearing relatives Vincent is saved from a marriage trap by Sophia. Because of this rescue from her icky cousin she is thrown out from her aunt’s house, and in steps Vincent with an […]
