Lost in the Brain Fog

The Sunset Years of Agnes Sharp by Leonie Swann

January 16, 2026 by Pooja Leave a Comment

When their neighbor turns up shot and killed, Agnes and her housemates are excited to be able to pin the death of their friend Lilith on the same murderer – if only they can solve the crime themselves before the police do. I picked up this book because the premise cracked me up. The image of these pensioners all creeping around trying to cover up one murder and solve another is just so dark and amusing. Of course, as I started reading I quickly found […]

A Wooly Mystery

Three Bags Full by Leonie Swann

November 19, 2025 by RouletteGirl Leave a Comment

George, the shepherd, was dead. The flock found him in the pasture with a spade shoved into his belly, so he clearly didn’t die of natural causes. But who killed him? At the instigation of Miss Maple, the (unofficial) smartest sheep in Glenkill, the flock decided they’d have to investigate George’s death themselves. This may sound like the set-up for a cozy mystery, but Three Bags Full is a witty philosophical tale that just so happens to be from the perspective of sheep. As they […]

A Sheep Detective Story!

Three Bags Full: A Novel by Leonie Swann

June 17, 2025 by ElCicco 3 Comments

This charming murder mystery was originally published in German in 2005. The Deluxe Edition that I read came out this year, and apparently an animated movie with Hugh Jackman and Emma Thompson is due in 2026. I happened to see the sequel to this novel (Big Bad Wool) in Barnes and Noble, so I asked if they had the first book. If you enjoy cozy murder mysteries, look this one up. The action takes place in a quaint little Irish village called Glennkill, famous for […]

“Maple thought optimistically that human beings, on their good days, weren’t much dimmer than sheep.”

Three Bags Full: A Sheep Detective Story by Leonie Swann

August 26, 2019 by blauracke Leave a Comment

When a shepherd is killed in a little Irish village, his sheep decide to solve his murder themselves. The investigation is led by the wise Miss Maple who soon discovers that everything may be much more complicated than it seemed at first. The premise is great, and there are some very cute ideas in this book. What I liked especially was that Swann didn’t make the sheep humans in sheep bodies but that she tried to give them their own way of thinking. Supposedly, they […]
