Will update once HarperCollins strike ends

After Dark with the Duke by Julie Anne Long

January 8, 2023 by Malin Leave a Comment

This book was published by an imprint of HarperCollins and I’m withholding my  review until the HarperCollins Union gets a contract. I will update this post then. Some Do’s & Don’ts if you want to help Do’s: Donate online to the strike hardship fund. Sign the Strike Solidarity Open Letter. Talk about the HarperCollins Union. Share their graphics on social media, put information in your newsletters, and invite friends to do the same. Email peopleteam@harpercollins.com and brian.murray@harpercollins.com and tell them you support the union getting […]

Is a New Yorker in London the opposite of an Englishman in New York?

I'm Only Wicked with You by Julie Anne Long

March 19, 2022 by Malin 2 Comments

3.5 stars Hugh Cassidy is an ambitious man. He knows exactly what he wants from life, he’s going to run for mayor of his hometown, from thence devote his life to politics. While his parents may not have been particularly distinguished, they clearly loved one another and raised Hugh and his siblings to believe in hard work, as well being moral and upstanding people. Hugh is in England to try to track down the runaway daughter of a good friend (and as the story progresses […]

A Romance Classic

What I Did For a Duke (Pennyroal Green, #5) by Julie Anne Long

July 6, 2021 by narfna 3 Comments

**30 Books in 30 Days** Book 6/30 This was very, very good. There isn’t *really* a plot, but in this case, that’s a good thing. What this is, is a character piece. The movement of the story comes with the evolution of the characters’ feelings for each other. (Much in the way comedies of manners do it.) It’s got a great set-up, though. Alex Moncrieffe, the Duke of Falconbridge, finds his fiancé in bed with Ian Eversea, and chases Eversea out the window, buck-ass nude. […]

“It isn’t a weakness to accept kindness. It isn’t a weakness to allow yourself to be cared for.”

What I Did for a Duke (Pennyroyal Green #5) by Julie Anne Long

January 23, 2021 by faintingviolet 4 Comments

I was inspired by last year’s reviews of What I Did for a Duke by Emmalita and Malin to move this one up my to read list. I’m still struggling in 2021 with finding my ability to sink into books and last year I was able to most easily focus on Romance novels, so I was comfortable betting the same would be true now. It had been quite awhile since I was actively seeking time to dive back into a book, and What I Did […]

“Your hand is unconscionably soft, Miss Eversea”

What I Did for a Duke by Julie Anne Long

December 17, 2020 by Emmalita 8 Comments

In the comments of my review of two contemporary age gap romances, Daddy Crush and Your Dad Will Do, Mrs. Julien reminded me of What I Did for a Duke. I first reviewed this back in 2015 and looking back at my review all I really see is how much I valued (and continue to value) Malin and Mrs. Julien. This book is a tour de force and I don’t think I appreciated that the first time I read it. I haven’t reread any of […]

Revenge in the form of pranks is dumb and other lessons

Angel in a Devil's Arms (The Palace of Rogues #2) by Julie Anne Long

August 14, 2020 by Nart Leave a Comment

This is the sequel to Lady Derring Takes a Lover and it is excellent. I reviewed the first one a while ago here and unli ke most romance series where you can really pick up any book out of order, you’ll miss out on plot and meeting a lot of the characters that are central to this novel if you don’t read the first in the series before this one. Plot: Now that the Palace on the Grand Thames is doing pretty okay, the Way Full […]
