Well I guess I read the Reckoners series

July 27, 2017 by vel veeter 1 Comment

So this has almost all the marks of a Brandon Sanderson series. The action is very well-written, the characters are overly goofy, the dialogue is overly goofy, but he doesn’t use the word “maladroitly” so who knows, maybe it was ghostwritten. “All men are corrupt. The seed of the Epic is inside each one. And so, all must die…”

The second book in the Reckoners series. I felt that Steelheart had a really exciting opening, then was sort of…not exactly boring, but it didn’t live up to the opening. Even so, I really liked the book. Firefight was really good. I liked giving the main character something new to focus on, other than revenge. What if superheroes were the bad guys?

February 17, 2015 by narfna 3 Comments

Firefight is the second book in prolific wunderkind* Brandon Sanderson’s YA series, The Reckoners, which is about what would happen if the world suddenly developed superheroes, only the superheroes were all of them evil, power-hungry, maniacal psychopaths. The Reckoners are a group of normal people (well, mostly) dedicated to bringing down those superheroes, called Epics in this world. Nineteen year old David is our protagonist and POV into this world. When he was a kid, he watched as infamous Epic Steelheart killed his father, and he […]

I read them in the late 1980s/early 90s too. They were my first romances.

I really enjoyed this one. I was particularly amused at Lady Catherine deBoutgh’s disgust at her assassin’s incompetence.
