Casablance, this is not

The black and white femme fatale cover and the Moroccan setting combine to inspire some old Hollywood nostalgia, but Tangerine tries to leverage that to trick you into thinking there’s a similar standard of quality in the book. I’m still grateful to Leedock’s review for setting my expectations but yikes this just wasn’t that good. I admit to judging  books by their covers. Generally, that pans out for me. This one had a great cover  AND a promising teaser from Joyce Carol Oates: As if Donna Tartt, Gillian Flynn, and Patricia Highsmith had collaborated on a screenplay to be filmed by Hitchcock-suspenseful and atmospheric.
