The Magician's Nephew (The Chronicles of Narnia, #1) by C.S. Lewis

So before I discovered Harry Potter (sigh) this used to be my very favorite fantasy series. I read and re-read several of them endlessly, including this one. But I haven’t revisited it in years and years. I don’t even remember the last time I read it. Maybe when one of the movies came out? (The movies never captured the magic for me.) Anyway, I’ve been comfort re-reading favorite fantasy books over the past year and I had the hankering to pick this one back up […]

Take Me Back to Narnia Y’all (Bingo – I Wish)

Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis

My 11 year old is just getting into the Chronicles of Narnia and I’m nudging him on the journey by doing a simultaneous reread of what for me was a childhood favorite. I am sure I haven’t read them since I was his age, so it’s an interesting time traveling exercise to be reading them now, as an adult. I remember them feeling formidable, foreign even, rich in both action and description, wherein I have to actively try to slow myself down in order to […]

It’s the Chronic (WHAT) cles of Narnia

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

Can anyone in their 30s talk about The Chronicles of Narnia without now recalling the SNL Digital Short Lazy Sunday starring Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell? Because the minute I say the name of the series, that’s all I hear, them yelling about going to watch the movie version of the first book. As I started to write this review, I went and looked up the video and it still got a giggle, so well done to the future Mr. Jake Peralta. Buuuut anyhoo. Why […]

Preparing for Easter: Fifty Devotional Readings from C. S. Lewis by C.S. Lewis My rating: 4 of 5 stars “Preparing for Easter” by C.S. Lewis is a thought-a-day for Lent. There’s a theme for each week and each selection from Lewis’s works ties in to this theme. When I first picked up the book, I thought it was actually written by C.S. Lewis. It does not take long to realize that this is not the case. Instead, the publishers have taken short pieces from the […]

Is anyone else annoyed they changed the order of the Chronicles of Narnia?

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

“The Chronicles of Narnia” were my introduction to fantasy as a child.  I was given the series as a Christmas present and I remember spending the rest of winter break reading them.  This particular re-read was to introduce my 7 year old daughter to Narnia and I’m thoroughly annoyed that recent editions of the series has re-arranged the order of the books.  My set was ordered: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, The Silver Chair, A Horse and […]
