I read this, but I’m not sure I could convince anyone.

The Singularity Trap by Dennis E. Taylor

July 8, 2018 by ingres77 Leave a Comment

I had never heard of Dennis E. Taylor prior to reading the first book in his Bobiverse series last year. I enjoyed that book immensely; so much so, in fact, that I think I oversold it in my review. Setting all that aside, though, the series was still a highlight of the year, and I’ll read any future novels he writes in the universe. So, seeing that he’s come out with a new book piqued my interest. I think it’s an Audible-only release, though. The […]

Well, That’s Done

All These Worlds by Dennis Taylor

June 21, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I read the first two of these novels earlier in the year, and the amusement quickly wore thin for me.  However, I already had the third novel on my Kindle, I was slightly curious to see how it ended, and since I have been on a streak of good books lately, I thought enough time had passed where some of the flaws would be less grating.  Overall, I was less irritated with this one than the previous one since I had taken a break from […]

Oh Please Tell Me More About Your TODO list …

For We Are Many by Dennis Taylor

March 19, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

The second Bobiverse novel takes off where the other one left off, but felt less fun.  I don’t think it was necessarily less light-hearted but how entertaining this one is basically all depends on how entertaining Bob is to the reader – I don’t dislike Bob, but he also isn’t anywhere in my top ten of people I would like to clone and take over the world so I was ready for some other voices. It’s weird, I feel like one novel told from one […]

A Way Too Heavy and Analytical Take on A Light Sci-Fi Novel

We Are Legion (We Are Bob) by Dennis Taylor

March 8, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I am not sure what it is with me but I tend to take light sci-fi novels and view them in a much darker than intended way.  And sci-fi novels are intended to be dark are depressingly bleak (Three Body Problem trilogy, looking at you here!). While everyone else was enjoying the ride of Ready Player One, my response was: “they’ve basically destroyed the environment, life is miserable, and the novel’s focus is on winning a video game. I mean I get it as a […]

Bob infinitum,

For We Are Many; All These Worlds by Dennis E. Taylor

January 26, 2018 by ingres77 2 Comments

A quick recap of the first book and basic outline of the universe, here (with some minor spoilers of the first book): these books are set more than a hundred years in the future. Humanity has been ravaged by devastating global wars, and is on the brink of extinction. Their only recourse is salvation by recolonization to be orchestrated by the AI Bob, who was created from the cryogenically frozen brain of a mid-21st century tech entrepreneur. Alongside this, the Bob (who has cloned himself […]

Why aren’t we all talking about this book?!

We Are Legion by Dennis E Taylor

November 29, 2017 by ingres77 3 Comments

This is what you get if John Scalzi were to write The Martian infused with Ready Player One, and I can’t believe this hasn’t been reviewed a dozen times for the Cannonball Read. Now, let me be clear, I don’t think this book is quite as good as either The Martian or Ready Player One, but it’s got the same feel as those books. The protagonist, Bob, is a smartass, and very capable of solving problems with science – just like Mark Watney. But Taylor […]
