In My Dreams I Hold A Knife: A Novel by Ashley Winstead

February 25, 2026 by ElCicco Leave a Comment

If you like murder mysteries and want a quick read, this book could fit the bill. I found it hard to put down, even though (maybe because?) the characters are all pretty terrible people. Main character and narrator Jessica Miller is looking forward to her ten year college reunion, but when she returns to Duquette, some old ghosts get stirred up and the unsolved murder of her best friend and roommate will dominate the weekend’s activities. Could one of her friends, the infamous East House […]

Friends ’til the End

In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead

February 7, 2024 by Melina Leave a Comment

What first drew me to this book was its cool title and the fact there wasn’t a knife on the front cover.  That bothered me. A Lot.  So of course? I had to read this book. Then I read a synopsis of the book and I really had to read it…because it seemed to be right up my alley.  Let me tell you about it and you can decide if it’s also for you! Lots of people attend college reunions for various reasons–to reconnect, to […]

Secret secrets are no fun, secret secrets hurt someone.

The Last Housewife by Ashley Winstead

December 4, 2022 by narfna Leave a Comment

Okay, so just don’t go into this expecting a FUN thriller. It’s not fun; it deals with some serious and dark subjects in a rather dark way. But it IS a compelling read, and I read it so fast, and it’s also not a bleak read. You will have resolution and not in a way that makes you want to crawl under your covers. This is a book about a sex cult, grooming, sexual assault, misogyny, and murder. So, obviously go in knowing you should […]

Surprisingly Enjoyable

In My Dreams I Hold a Knife by Ashley Winstead

March 22, 2022 by Ellesfena Leave a Comment

For as often as I read mystery thrillers like this, I so rarely enjoy them. And there are so many reasons I shouldn’t have enjoyed In My Dreams I Hold a Knife, but I still did, in spite of all of them. The main character, Jess, is an overachiever preparing to go back to her 10 year college reunion at Duquette, a college which is “just a step below the Ivy League.” In college she was part of a golden group called the East House Seven […]
