Hot Kylo Ren, Toxic Relationships, and Dull Writing

The Force Awakens by Alan Dean Foster

The Last Jedi by Jason Fry

The Rise of Skywalker by Rae Carson

June 9, 2021 by esmemoria 21 Comments

I am obsessed with Adam Driver. If you are not obsessed with Adam Driver, I know not your constitution. I’ve become obsessed with the Star Wars movies episodes IX through XI and the sexy, tortured, full lipped character of Kylo Ren, who is the villain. I originally wrote “hero” by mistake, which shows how twisted my love is. So enamored of Kylo, Rey, and the movies in general, I somewhat abashedly bought the books based on the movies. And boy do they kind of suck. […]

Read the Small Print!

Carnivores of Light and Darkness (Journeys of the Catechist – Book 1) by Alan Dean Foster (1998) – I wish I’d noticed the “Book One” subtitle before I started the book.  After the great inciting event and subsequent quest, the heroes seemed no closer to achieving their goal at the end than when they began.  But it was an exciting journey with interesting characters and an atmosphere of the fantastic which Alan Dean Foster is so good at. Our hero is Etjole, a quiet shepherd […]

A disappointing novelization.

March 3, 2016 by narfna 2 Comments

I waited for this book on hold at my library for two and half months. It wasn’t worth it. At the same time, I’m glad I didn’t give in to my initial impulse to buy it. That would have been a huge waste of $20. Unfortunately, Alan Dean Foster manages to take a great story and make it more pondering, less exciting, and inserts a level of cheese into the dialogue with his added and extended scenes (and even in some cases, changed lines) that […]

You’ve Seen the Movie, Now See the…Deleted Scenes, I Guess?

January 26, 2016 by HasenKlub 9 Comments

Look, this is a review for the novelization of the movies, so ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** (Although, if this applies to you, just go see it already…)   I’m going to preface this review by saying that I don’t typically read movie novelizations. The only one I have read before was for one of the Jaws sequels when I was a kid. Jaws 2, maybe? I vaguely remember it being about a female shark and she was pregnant, I think? There was definitely maybe a water skier […]
