“The Galactic Whirlpool”: Early Original Star Trek Novel Vangie13 cbr #10

January 16, 2014 by Vangie13 2 Comments

If Gene Roddenberry is The Great Bird of the Galaxy and Majel Barrett the First Lady of Star Trek, then David Gerrold is  Star Trek’s Nanny.  He nurtured it, disciplined it, educated it—encouraged it to be the best it could be.  David Gerrold has done nearly as much for the franchise as Roddenberry—it could be argued that he has done more. He wrote for The Original Series, The Animated Series, and The Next Generation.  He was involved in Star Trek: Phase II, a proposed TV […]

Augment: Human Services review

January 13, 2014 by bignick Leave a Comment

This review is for Augment: Human Services by Phil Elmore. It’s a science-fiction/action story set in a future where people have undergone extreme cybernetic augmentations. The lead character is an agent of the State meant to police the Augments and protect the “normal” population from them. It’s a interesting read. Here’s the link for my review: http://kingscrier.blogspot.com/2014/01/augment-human-services-brutal-future-of.html

The Lifecycle of Software Objects #CBR6

January 13, 2014 by Fiat.Luxury 2 Comments

I wasn’t much into sci-fi until I met my other half.  He has introduced me to a few of his favorite authors and I have grown to appreciate the genre much more over the last few years.  Neither of us had read any Ted Chiang, whose name always pops up in sci fi discussions, so together we read his collection of excellent short stories, Stories Of Your Life And Others, which I highly recommend. At 150 pages, The Lifecycle of Software Objects is the longest […]

“Perry’s Planet”: Early Original Star Trek Novel Vangie13 cbr #9

January 13, 2014 by Vangie13 Leave a Comment

by Jack C. Haldeman II “You lived, Kirk.  My brother died.  There is the difference.  You will pay for that difference, pay dearly.  Not now, maybe not tomorrow, but someday.  Someday, when you least expect it, I will kill you.  Slowly, painfully.  It will give me great pleasure.  I have sworn the oath of blood upon our father’s grave. ” Long ago, Captain Kirk killed the Klingon Khall, Commander Korol’s brother, in hand-to hand combat.  Probably on Kardashia. Korol swears revenge and follows the Enterprise […]
