One Thing Leads to a Lover

A lighthearted and humorous historical romance

One Thing Leads to a Lover by Susanna Craig

June 7, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 3 Comments

In true llama fashion, I picked up the first book in this series because of the interesting cover: the bold neon title juxtaposed with the women in regency dress. The book itself was just as fun as the cover suggested, so I was excited to pick up this one, and even more happy that it’s just as delightfully funny and quick-paced. While this is the second in the series, this book can easily be read as a stand-alone. Langley is one of General Scott’s intelligence […]

Local Star

Poly romance… in spaaaaace!

Local Star by Aimee Ogden

June 4, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 1 Comment

As with most of my book choices lately, I picked this up solely based on the cover. It’s an enjoyable and quickly-paced scifi romance novella. After a decisive win against the Cyberbionautic Alliance, Triz is excited to go party with her newly-returned-from-the-war partner Casne – after she finishes up taking a look at her fighter pilot ex’s seriously smashed up ship. It doesn’t help that Kalo seems more interested in hanging around chatting with her than joining the party. But when Casne is arrested for […]

Perfect on Paper

“We shared cracks in complementary places.”

Perfect on Paper by Sophie Gonzales

June 3, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

This book is just so adorable and funny. I’m not sure how I’ve missed this author before, but once I picked this book up I could not put it down! Darcy operates an agony aunt locker at her high school. Students can drop off a letter – and the fee – and get a personalized email response. And things are going great! She has a 95% success rate (based on refunds) and she’s successfully managed to keep it a secret, even from her best friend […]

A New Foundation

“I’d rather trust you than love you.”

A New Foundation by Rochelle Alers

May 28, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

I was a bit shocked to realize I’d never read anything by Rochelle Alers before, so when I saw this was the start of a new series, I had to pick this up. This is a delightfully sweet romance with the best friend’s sibling and workplace romance tropes and it was so much fun to read! Taylor is the oldest of five adopted siblings, four brothers and one sister. After their father’s death, they discover that they’ve inherited a mansion in New Jersey – more […]

Alien Quarantine Rescue

Vaccination by, um, well…

Alien Quarantine Rescue by Robin Lovett

May 26, 2021 by llamareadsbooks 3 Comments

I very much enjoyed the Planet of Desire series, so I went into this looking for more sexy bananapants fun. I figured that the pandemic setting would either be too much (given the past year) or just right, and it ended up being a mix of both. And this is definitely banana pants, but the sexy missed the mark a bit for me. Unlike the previous series, this book is set on Earth after a pandemic (the Beerona, a name that made me roll my […]

Alias Space

Thirteen stories from a “book-based lifeform”

Alias Space and Other Stories by Kelly Robson

May 24, 2021 by llamareadsbooks Leave a Comment

In the introduction, the author calls herself a “book-based lifeform” which immediately struck a chord for me. This is a collection of thirteen stories, from some of the author’s earliest work to her latest, including the author’s Nebula award winning novelette. Each story is followed by author’s notes explaining the inspiration and and her intent. “It’s no use pretending the world hadn’t changed. It changes all the time. Every choice we make, every person we meet, has the potential to transform our lives. When that […]
