Did you grow up as a reader? Are your kids readers?
I was a voracious reader as a kid! I remember having to get special permission to take out more than the usual number of books from the library, plus I got early access to the Young Adult room. Each summer, we’d go on vacation to a cabin for two weeks and between myself, my mom and my grandmother we’d have 5-6 milk crates of books.
It’s no surprise that my kids also rocket through books. My oldest loves graphic novels and adventure books (he’s eagerly awaiting the last Amulet book) and while my youngest just started reading, she’s a big fan of the Babysitter’s Club graphic novels.
How do you decide what to read next on your TBR list?
Usually it’s whatever ARC is due next! I read a ton of review copies because I love sharing my opinion of books (or shoving them in other’s faces, as my IRL friends have found out!). When I don’t have an ARC due, I’m very much a “whatever I see first” reader – so usually newly released books or something that catches my eye on the library shelves. This does mean that my TBR pile is a veritable mountain. I keep meaning to do a month where I only read from my TBR, but to be frank, I’d probably have to do that for at least a year at this point to make a dent!
How many times have you participated in CBR? Has it changed the way you read?
This is my second year! I’ve definitely added a lot more books to my TBR, thanks to all the wonderful reviews, and I try to make a point of reviewing most of the things I read. The bingo last year was one of my favorite bingos ever that I’ve participated in, and I’m very much looking forward to it this year!
What’s the favorite thing you’ve read on a CBR recommendation?
Morning Glory Milking Farm. I know, I know. I saw it all over Twitter and TikTok, but it was katie71483’s review that finally convinced me to read it. Ridiculously sweet with a side of social commentary! The Councillor by E.J. Beaton is waiting on my ereader for some pool reading time, as I’ve heard great things about it from Aquillia’s review, among others.
What’s your favorite summer treat? Frosty beer, cherry limeade, ice cream cone, other?
Watermelon! The rest of my family are barbarians and put salt on it, but I love it plain, especially when it’s cut into giant half-circles!
