Books have been a part of my life from a very young age . I'm currently being ruled over by 3 cats (Rafferty, Bodhi Rook & Yersinia Pestis), who I can mostly get not to chew on book covers. Lately, I'll read anything, though Science Fiction and Romance will always be on the bottom of the pile.

“He might not hold them in high esteem, but he had learnt long ago how precious of their dignity minor officials could be.”

Servant of Death: The First Braadecote and Catchpoll Mystery by Sarah Hawkswood

August 1, 2026 by bjornsnipe Leave a Comment

Eudo – the Lord Bishop of Winchester’s much feared and extremely loathed clerk – is found bludgeoned to death in Pershore Abbey, laid before the altar in the attitude of a penitent. This isn’t an easy murder to solve, as everyone who ever had contact with him had motive, and there are a lot of people who met him in the Abbey. (To be honest, I wouldn’t have been too surprised if this was a Medieval Murder on the Orient Express. Instead, it’s more The […]

“It was enough simply to be for a while alongside a friend. Everything else was just noise.” (I wish this book was just noise)

A Fellowship of Games & Fables: Adenashire Book Three by J. Penner

August 1, 2026 by bjornsnipe Leave a Comment

Jez, Adenashire’s resident grumpy Fennex, would rather curl up for a nap and hibernate through the season rather than go out in the snow and frolic. Unfortunately, a drunken boast lands her in the middle of the holiday festivities, competing in the Yule competition, and fake dating her friend, Taenya. (Well, that’s what you get when you mix pounding back drinks with an antagonistic personality. Or being a FMC in a Cozy Romantasy; either one.) Plagued by chronic fatigue (for unexplained reasons. Could be the […]

“There have been as many plagues as wars in history; yet always plagues and wars take people equally by surprise”- Albert Camus

Desolation: A Ralph de Mandeville Mystery by Keith Moray

August 1, 2026 by bjornsnipe Leave a Comment

1361, York. As the country attempts to recover from the Hundred Years’ War with France, nobleman and commoner alike start to have another concern: whispers that the pestilence, one of the ultimate equalizers,  has returned to England. But murder stops for nothing, and  Sir Ralph de Mandeville, ex-solider and newly appointed Justice of the Peace, is sent to just outside York to investigate the murder of Coroner Sir Boderick de Whitby. More deaths quickly follow, and while these are claimed as some to be plague […]

Strange Buildings: The Chilling Japanese Mystery Sensation by Uketsu; translated by Jim Rion

August 1, 2026 by bjornsnipe 2 Comments

After the events in Strange Houses, a writer fascinated by the occult is bombarded with letters from people with tales of mysterious architecture in their own lives. He picks eleven to investigate, little knowing these eleven are strangely intertwined. Odd layouts, useless hallways, apartments with no escape: all leading to an underlying mystery and a revelation so horrifying you won’t want to acknowledge it. People are often irrational. They make stupid decisions for the sake of unquestioned beliefs, particularly where religion is concerned. This was […]

“Echoes of her late husband drifted around her, this pernicious and lingering Old Gods notion that a uterus somehow endowed one with inherent childcare abilities.”

The Undermining of Twyla and Frank by Megan Bannen

July 12, 2026 by bjornsnipe Leave a Comment

No one in the town of Eternity expected widowed, middle-aged Twyla Banneker to partner with her neighbor and best friend, Frank Ellis, to join the Tanrian Marshals. But that was eight years ago, and Twyla and Frank have rewarding careers patrolling the strange land of Tanria, despite the misgivings of her grown children. Hey, it beats the alternative; the domestic grind of an empty-nester mother whose sons think she has nothing better to do than be a free babysitter. Fortunately (or unfortunately) a recent decrease […]

“After it’s over, of course, you want to kick yourself for all the things you didn’t see at the time. The Had-I-But-Known school of private investigation perhaps.”

“B” is for Burglar: A Kinsey Millhone Mystery (#2) by Sue Grafton

July 12, 2026 by bjornsnipe 1 Comment

Just two weeks after the events of ‘A’ is for Alibi, Kinsey Millhone is hitting a slow time at the office. Unfortunately, this is put a stop to by Beverly Danziger; she wants Kinsey to find her sister Elaine Boldt. There’s a small legal matter that Beverly needs Elaine’s signature; one so small, she could just look for Elaine herself. Yet she’s asking Kinsey to find her instead. The whole affair doesn’t sit well with Kinsey. And if there’s something she’s learned in her line […]

I'm not generally into shifter romances, but the title really is awesome.

That is definitely NOT what I am looking for in a romance.
